Description
On July 4, 1939, Lou Gehrig addressed the fans at Yankees Stadium to announce his retirement and extend his appreciation to the Yankees and their fans. Gehrig was diagnosed with a disease that slowly deteriorated his iron horse frame. Gehrig would die on June 2, 1941 as a victim to the disease that would later bear his name. The Yankees potent offense led them to their fourth consecutive World Series Championship in 1939.
