New York Yankees 1951 Home light weight wool flannel blend jersey # 07
The 1951 season marked the Golden Anniversary of the American League. While barnstorming the West Coast, the World Champion New York Yankees played the University of California in an exhibition game on March 26. A young Mickey Mantle exhibited his power by blasting a 600 ft. home run, a testament of what was to come. Mantle wore the number 6 during his debut with the Yankees on April 17. After starting off slow the Yankees sent Mantle down to their Kansas City Farm Club. When Mantle returned later that year he wore the number 7, and helped the Yankees to their 14th World Series Championship over the New York Giants.
