Philadelphia Phillies 1950 Home lightweight wool flannel blend jersey # 01
In 1915, behind Hall of Fame pitching, the Philadelphia Phillies captured their first National League Pennant. The famed Babe Ruth and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Phillies in the 1915 World Series, winning their third title since its inception in 1903. In 1950, thirty-five years after their first pennant, the Phillies beat out the Brooklyn Dodgers to win the second National League Pennant in the history of their franchise. With a red scare sweeping across the country the Phillies had to get through the powerful New York Yankees to capture their first World Series title. The Phillies were led by Nebraska native Richie Ashburn, who batted .303 with 180 hits during the 1950 season. Ashburn and the Phillies were swept by the Yankees, losing three of the four games by one run.
